Fight Cancer with Papaya - Treats Every Type of Tumor

Nam Dang from the University of Florida teamed up with researchers from Japan to test the anti-cancer effects of dry Papaya leaf extract against cervix cancer, breast cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer and pancreatic cancer and found that the higher the dose of Papaya leaf tea was used, the more it impacted the tumor.

Cancer fighting properties of Papaya leaf tea were attributed to increased production of key signaling molecules called Th1-type cytokines, which are known regulators of the immune system. Papaya extract helps to stimulate these Th1-type cytokines which in turn promote the ability of patient’s immunity to destroy cancerous cells. With proper boost, the immune system is able to fight various types of cancers without the need of harmful procedures such as chemotherapy or radiation. And since Papaya has no toxic effects on normal cells, its consumption goes without side effects.

Ten different cancer type cells were exposed to Papaya leaf extract for 24 hours and each of the cultures experienced slower tumor growth after exposure. Researchers repeated the test with exposure to Papaya leaf extract of different strengths and recorded the results for each. In conclusion, higher doses of Papaya leaf extract showed more powerful impact on tumor growth. Since according to this study, Papaya is able to slow down the growth of any type of tumor, no matter which type of cancer you are suffering from, Papaya could help you fight it.

• Red Wine

Both dark chocolate and red wine showed undisputed ability to starve tumors to death by choking off their blood supplies. Along with parsley and virtually all types of berries, the above mentioned six anti-angiogenesis foods proved to be “as effective or more potent in battling cancer” through anti-angiogenesis as approved drugs. Yet unlike conventional drugs, there are no side effects associated with consumption of natural foods and they are vastly more affordable bringing cancer treatment to people of all walks of life. Further into the research, Angiogenesis Foundation also discovered that natural anti-angiogenesis foods were even more effective when eaten together.

Modified Citrus Pectin

In 2003, the Journal of the National Cancer Institute quietly published a paper by doctors Nangia-Makker P, Hogan V, Honjo Y, Baccarini S, Tait L, Bresalier R, and Raz A. It happened almost eight years ago, and no one has heard much about it since. In that paper, the doctors verified scientifically that significant doses of modified citrus pectin (15 grams per day – costing about $100 per month) halved the growth rate of prostate tumors in several men tested. That means that cancer can be detected later without adversely affecting survival rates if you start on a regimen of modified citrus protein as soon as you learn that you have cancer.

Their tests indicated that modified citrus pectin prevents many types of cancer from creating new blood vessels with which to feed itself. Because it’s reliant on a specific molecule (galectin-3) to function, and that molecule isn’t found in healthy human cells, it has no adverse side effects whatsoever. It also doesn’t function on cancers that don’t use galectin-3, but most cancers, notably prostate, breast, and colon cancer, do.

Cannabinoids

In 2005, Cancer Research (a trade journal for oncologists) published a study by doctors Sami Sarfaraz, Farrukh Afaq, Vaqar M. Adhami and Hasan Mukhtar, in which they tested human prostate cancer cells and found that certain non-addictive cannabinoids (not marijuana-based, but clinically created synthetic cannabinoids) not only prevented prostate cancer cells from reproducing, but actually induced apoptosis (killed the cancer cells). The study was concluded with a simple sentence that sums it up the best: “We conclude that cannabinoids should be considered as agents for the management of prostate cancer.”

Herbs

Study recommending herbs as a prostate cancer alternative treatment was presented at the December 13, 2003 meeting of the Society of Urologic Oncology at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Doctors D.L. Bemis, K.A. Kozakowski, A.G. Anastasiadis, B.C. Stisser, L. Salomon, and Aaron E. Katz observed the effects of a “unique blend” of herbs which they named ‘Zyflamend’ on prostate cancer. The blend contained rosemary, tumeric, ginger, holy basil, green tea, hu zhang, Chinese goldthread, barberry, oregano, and scutallaria baicalensis. According to the study, Zyflamend killed prostate cancer cells so well that after only 72 hours of treatment, cultures that had been treated with Zyflamend had seventy-eight percent less cancer cells than untreated cultures. Further study by Aaron E. Katz has proven that Zyflamend also prevents prostate cancer in men who show strong risk signs such as prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia.

These latest therapies are still being researched but some are already available for sale. Ask your doctor if he would recommend any of them but keep in mind that like most prostate cancer alternative treatments, he may never have heard of them.

Wasabi – Skin Cancer Alternative Treatment

In 2005, a pile of Japanese doctors studied something called 6-methylsulfinylhexyl isothiocyanate – a main chemical component of wasabi. The amount of wasabi needed to cause a 50% reduction in melanoma growth (i.e. doubling the time it takes for a tumor to grow and metastasize) was so small that it was almost trivial. A larger dose not only slowed cell growth, but actually killed some kinds of cancer cells outright – specifically, melanoma and breast cancer.

Ascorbic Acid – Skin Cancer Alternative Treatment

Orthomolecular Medicine News Service, November 9, 2007: “Physicians and patients report that Vitamin C, applied directly to basal cell skin cancers, causes them to scab over and drop off.” You read that correctly. The most common type of skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma, can literally be treated with liquid vitamin C. A solution of ascorbic acid in water does no harm to your body, but kills basal cell carcinoma quite effectively. Simply purchase crystallized ascorbic acid, add water slowly until the crystals all dissolve, and apply it to the tumor. This is probably the simplest skin cancer alternative treatment ever discovered.

Fruits and Veggies – Skin Cancer Alternative Treatment

Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research, 2003 published a study in which Calcium Glucarate (CaG), a compound found in most fruits and vegetables and some seeds, proved to be a very effective inhibitor of cell growth and in many cases triggered apoptosis (cell death) in cancer cells. According to the report’s conclusion: “…the topical application of CaG… can be used for the prevention of skin tumors alone or can be tried in combination with… other known antitumor compounds.”

Corn Lily – Skin Cancer Alternative Treatment

Though the corn lily itself is quite toxic, a compound derived from it, cyclopamine – already proven effective against brain and pancreatic cancer – has recently been proven to be a strong skin cancer alternative treatment as well. By blocking a signaling protein that tells cancer cells when to grow, it prevents tumors from spreading. The experiment gave mice with basal cell carcinoma the corn lily extract in their drinking water – virtually the worst way to get a compound into the skin (because of all of the systems it must pass through to get from the digestive system out to the skin), and it still reduced microscopic basal cell carcinomas by 90%.

The advances that scientists are making quietly, without any medical doctors hearing about them, are incredible. From simple solutions of crystallized vitamins to extracts of plants that nearly killed Lewis and Clark on their famous expedition, each of these skin cancer alternative treatments is almost stupidly simple and safe compared to the horrors of chemotherapy and radiation.

One example of this ‘improved’ traditional therapy is the new British technology called the CyberKnife, or IRIS system. The CyberKnife is a robotic machine that can apply small doses of radiation over very specific areas, allowing even oddly-shaped tumors to be burned away with a minimum of damage to the surrounding tissue. The result is radiation therapy that doesn’t produce the amount of necrosis and immune system overload that standard rad therapy does.

Even with a CyberKnife, however, some harsh side effects can still make life miserable. But alternative treatments that haven’t been proven to help directly fight cancer have been proven to deal with these secondary problems quite effectively. For example, many radiation patients suffer xerostomia – severe dry mouth – but a University of Texas study revealed that acupuncture helps with xerostomia as well as several other common nasty side effects of radiation and chemotherapy.

For skin cancer, several methods have recently come into common use that are out of the ordinary. Micrographic surgery involved stripping away very thin layers of tumor and surrounding tissue, then investigating to see what changes have occurred in the shape of the tumor, and adjusting the area of removal for the next layer accordingly. As such, the result is a much smaller wound than from a normal excision. This technique has a 97% cure rate for skin cancer – much better than the other latest cancer treatment methods.

A fascinating new technology has recently come under the spotlight in which ferrous nanoparticles ‘programmed’ to cling to cancer cells are injected into the body. A powerful magnet is applied which causes the nanoparticles along with the attached cancer cells to veer toward the magnet, allowing the cancer particles to be ‘collected’ in the abdomen for easy excretion. While this technique doesn’t have a profound effect on the main tumor, it is excellent for keeping the tumor from metastasizing and slows tumor growth. The major experiments in this technology have been done on ovarian cancer, but there is speculation about its applicability to a wide range of tumors.

Finally, fresh from Australia comes the latest cancer treatment methods that use the idea of engineering bacteria to fight cancer. In ‘mini-cell sabotage’, a mutant bacteria that creates tiny ‘bubbles’ of cell membrane every time it divides. Those tiny ‘bubbles’ – mini-cells – are then filled with toxin and coated with a specific antibody that is particularly attracted to cancer cells. The mini-cells attach themselves (via the antibodies) to the cancer cells, and the cancer cells reflexively eat them, taking in the toxin and dying. The antibody coating also helps the mini-cells avoid being attacked by the immune system. The only part of the experiment that isn’t full of promise is the fact that this technique has only been used on human cancers implanted in mice. Human trials will be underway soon.

Obviously, not all of these are treatments that you can ask for at your local hospital – yet. But research and development on the latest cancer treatment methods is ever-improving, and hope for a cure seems just over the horizon.

Phytochemicals as Colon Cancer Alternative Treatment

Scientists at the University of Dundee in Scotland published a study several years ago describing the effects of a small group of phytochemicals (plant-derived compounds) on colon cancer. Diindolylmethane, ascorbigen, indole-3-carbinol, and indolocarbazole, as well as sulforaphane, benzyl isothiocyanate and phenethyl isothiocyanate were tested in concert. All are natural, plant-derived compounds. The study concluded that the phytochemical complex both killed colon cancer at the cellular level and enhanced the body’s natural ability to resist genotoxins which are responsible for a significant portion of colon cancers.

Grape Seed as Colon Cancer Alternative Treatment

In the trade journal Nutrition and Cancer, scientists Keith W. Singletary and Brandon Meline published a study of how a grape seed polyphenolic extract called ‘proanthrocyanidin’, acted as a powerful colon cancer alternative treatment. In mice with colon cancer, adding grape seed extract equal to less than one percent of their total dietary consumption had significant negative effects on the growth and survival rates of the tumors – a good thing for those mice!

Vitamin D as Colon Cancer Alternative Treatment

From 1991 to 2002, Dr. Kimmie Ng of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston studied more than three hundred patients of colon cancer, noting their dietary intake of Vitamin D and comparing it to their survival rates. Vitamin D had already been proven in several studies to prevent colon cancer, but Dr. Ng’s study showed that Vitamin D also helped fight colon cancer. The evidence was clear: the patients in the top-25% of Vitamin D consumption survived, on average, 50% longer than the patients at the bottom, and had a higher quality of life as well. So eat your salmon, and spend 20 minutes a day in the sunshine.

Milk as Colon Cancer Alternative Treatment

Milk and related diary foods contain the only natural (and healthy) trans fat – conjugated linoleic acid, or CLA. A group of scientists working at the Kyung Hee University in South Korea performed an extensive study of the effects of CLA on colon cancer, finding that a diet that was composed of .5% CLA killed off 250% as many colon cancer cells as a diet composed of 0% CLA – enough to prevent new tumors from being created. Higher doses of CLA had no additional effect. They went on to a further experiment which proved that CLA not only prevents tumors from being created, but actually reduces the size of existing colon cancer tumors.

Clearly, if your doctor suggests that the only – or even just the best – ways to fight colon cancer are chemotherapy and radiation, he is not paying attention. Cloves as Lung Cancer Alternative Treatment

A milk thistle extract called silibnin has been proven to reduce the density of blood vessels in lung tumors. Mice with lung tumors who were fed moderate amounts of milk thistle had their tumor vessel density reduced by up to 89%, and the number of tumor cells that showed signs of active reproduction dropped by as much as 74%. The researcher’s conclusion was strong: “Silibinin…merits investigation as a chemopreventive agent for suppressing lung cancer progression.”

Ok, not just sunshine – but a study in Boston a few years back proved that recurrence-free survival of lung cancer treatment was doubled in patients who had their surgeries in the summertime (more sunlight = more Vitamin D created by the body) and had high intake of dietary Vitamin D as well. That alone should be reason for anyone with any form of lung cancer to take large quantities of Vitamin D every day.

Omega Fatty Acids as Lung Cancer Alternative Treatment

Specifically, Omega-3s and mixed tocopherols (vitamin E). The balance between Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids has been shown to directly affect cancer growth, with a higher level of Omega-3s having a beneficial effect (reducing cancer growth.) Meanwhile, mixed tocopherols (particularly gamma-tocopherol) have been proven to induce apoptosis (cell death) in lung cancer cultures in vitro.

Astragalus as Lung Cancer Alternative Treatment

While astragalus, a Chinese herb, hasn’t been shown to cure cancer on it’s own, it is of great assistance to people taking platinum-based chemotherapy, not only increasing the effects of the chemotherapy, but reducing the negative side-effects at the same time.

Western medicine has a very poor record in extending lives of Lung Cancer patients or ridding them of the tumor entirely. Unfortunately, because cervical cancer is so easy to stop before it starts, scientists largely regard it as a lower priority than cancers that are challenging to detect and therefore much more lethal. According to Channel News Asia, scientists in Singapore have developed a synthetic protein that stops cervical cancer cells from dividing altogether, thus halting the progress of a cervical tumor. Because the protein targets only cancerous cells, there is no collateral tissue damage like that caused by radiation or chemotherapy.

Diindolylmethane as Cervical Cancer Alternative Treatment

A compound found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cabbage, Diindolylmethane has been shown to be effective at preventing cancer. Scientists in the UK recently completed a small study of 14 women which proved that taking capsules with diindolylmethane equivalent to eating two full grown cabbages had a “significant effect” on the ability of an existing cervical tumor to grow and metastasize – not curing the cancer, but buying much more time for traditional methods to work at low doses, which in turn significantly reduces the negative side effects of the treatments.

Zedoania as Cervical Cancer Alternative Treatment

Called E Zhu in Chinese, scientists in that country injected a solution of Zedoania directly into the tumors of eighty cervical cancer patients. Doctors have not identified the mechanism by which the herb works, but the results were undeniable. Thirty of the patients were completely cured by the injection, and an additional 15 had their tumors shrink by 50% or more.

Britain’s Anti-Cancer Gel

Scientists in Britain developed a powerful but harmless-to-humans gel that break down the protein ‘coating’ that protects cervical cancer cells as well as those of its precursor, human papilloma virus. The gel is simply spread directly onto the cervix, and destroys the tumor’s armor – allowing the immune system to recognize the tumor for what it is, and destroy and remove it just like any other infection.

Obviously, none of these methods have been addressed by the FDA or other major American medical organizations. But those organizations have proven to be extraordinarily resistant to any form of cervical cancer alternative treatment – so much so that many people believe that they are being consciously suppressed. Regardless of what you believe, the range and efficacy of the cervical cancer alternative treatment options is bewildering, if you know where to look.

The side effects most commonly complained of are impotence – the inability of a man to sustain an erection or achieve orgasm – and incontinence, the inability of a man to control his urinary sphincter (and thus his choice of when to urinate.) Both of these issues clearly have profound impacts on a man’s psychological well-being.

You can easily end up with rectal wall damage, impotence, incontinence, and other major physical and morale-affecting issues as a result of any invasive method of dealing with prostate cancer. Prostate Proton Therapy – also known as Proton Beam Therapy for Prostate Cancer – uses a non-invasive external (i.e. no technology up your rear end) source of radiation that is safer than X-rays in that the radiation damage is very well-contained.

Proton beams come to an abrupt and controllable end, and don’t scatter as much as x-rays, which means that the tissue between the proton gun and the tumor receives some radiation damage, but the tissue next to and beyond the tumor does not. It might not sound like much on paper, but the difference in terms of the severity of the side effects is enormous. Quality-of-life issues are dramatically reduced for patients of prostate proton therapy versus radiation therapy – though there are still some rare patients who complain of impotence afterwards.

Proton beams are also capable of being more precisely aimed, which means that in addition to less auxiliary tissue damage, the tumor receives more of the radiation than it normally would with an x-ray. In theory, this makes the treatment more effective, though contrary to this, the Prostate Proton Therapy does run on an 8 week course (five days per week) – two to three weeks longer than traditional x-ray therapy. Nonetheless, patients who have tried both say that the Prostate Proton Therapy is less of a hindrance to their lifestyles than traditional radiation therapy.

Although prostate proton therapy is relatively expensive, often costing 2.5 times to 4 times more than radiation therapy, most medical insurers (including Medicare) cover the procedure.

People who have had their prostate cancer diagnosed in its early stages should be particularly alert to the option of prostate proton therapy. Because radiation therapy doesn’t offer the kind of focused beam that proton therapy does, small early-stage cancers are particularly bad targets for radiation therapy. Prostate proton therapy, on the other hand, is perfect for these tiny targets.

Prostate proton therapy‘s price tag might make it inappropriate for the uninsured, and the minimal risk of side effects like impotence and some tissue damage is still present – but the advantages of this selective technique so far outstrip the risks of chemotherapy and traditional radiation therapy that if you have insurance or Medicare, the choice is obvious.

Anti Cancer Supplement #1: Vitamin C

Vitamin C has long received attention as a potential cancer fighter, so much so that large organizations have moved to suppress the idea as it threatened their pharmaceutical profits. According to scientists at the National Institutes of Health, high doses of vitamin C successfully triggered free radical development inside of cancer cells without negative effects on the healthy cells surrounding the tumors. These free radicals haven’t been proven to kill cancer, but they have been proven to radically slow cancer growth, buying more time for traditional treatments to work. Similar studies have been performed for vitamin E.

Drug companies fought back claiming that the antioxidant properties of vitamins C and E were interfering with the effectiveness of traditional chemo- and radiation therapy. At the Simone Protective Cancer Institute in New Jersey, scientists performed over fifty clinical studies that have disproved the claims of the pharmaceutical conglomerates.

Anti Cancer Supplement #2: Enzyme Co Q10

While not a terrible amount of literature has been written about the effects of enzyme Co Q10 and cancer, it is worthy of mention that a series of case reports from the Institute for Biomedical Research at the University of Texas indicate a strong correlation between taking at least 90 milligrams of the enzyme orally every day and long-term (greater than six months) survival rates among node-positive (i.e. a tumor that has already metastasized) breast cancer patients who were also receiving traditional care.

Anti Cancer Supplement #3: Genistein and Curcumin

A combination of an antioxidant isoflavone found in fava beans and breadroot — genistein — and the principal polyphenol in tumeric — curcumin — have been found to completely prevent cancerous cell growth in vitro. Because these anti cancer supplements have significant effects on the way cancer cells process estrogen (which is necessary for the reproduction of most types of cancer), several researchers from various institutions have suggest a diet high in fava beans and tumeric (or taking geinstein and curcumin supplemets) as a way of significantly retarding the growth of estrogen-sensitive tumors.

More significantly, a study from the University of Texas proved that the tumor growth inhibition caused by curcumin is permanent, so cells removed from the curcumin-influenced environment never start growing again.

Anti Cancer Supplement #4: Amrit Kalash

While no definitive studies have shown the ability of Amrit Kalash to treat cancer, literally hundreds of studies from across India have shown that it is likely to prevent all forms of cancer.

Dr. Christine Horner-Taylor of Cincinnati, Ohio, engineered a study which proved that Amrit Kalash almost completely eliminates all of the undesirable side effects of chemotherapy.

While Amrit Kalash isn’t terribly well known in the Western world, the internet has made it fairly easy to acquire, if not inexpensively.

While the pharmaceutical companies and practitioners of modern medicine keep their focus on patent-worthy new drugs and ways to improve ‘traditional’ treatment methods, a little study of anti-cancer supplements can go a long way toward enhancing or even replacing modern cancer treatments altogether.
